Common mistakes about bearing installation

Bearings, as an essential component of industrial equipment, significantly affect the operational efficiency and service life of the equipment.Therefore, the installation quality of the bearings is also of great significance.

Apart from the quality conditions of the bearings themselves, improper installation often leads to premature damage or early failure of the bearings during use. This significantly increases the cost of the bearings. Here are some common misconceptions regarding the installation and use of bearings. Let's discuss them together.

1.Method of sealing

Some sealing materials may undergo chemical reactions with lubricating grease. For instance, ordinary nitrile rubber will swell when it comes into contact with certain oils, leading to seal failure.

Select fluororubber seals with stronger chemical resistance or pair them with polyurea greases that have good ompatibility. Only in this way can the sealing system operate reliably for a long time.

2.Storage conditions for bearings

The warehouse for storing deep groove ball bearings should be clean and dry. They must not be stored in the same warehouse as chemical products. The relative humidity should not exceed 65%, and bearings must not be stored on the ground. The inventory bearings should be re-cleaned and anti-rust packaged once every year.

3.Installation error

In bearing assembly, it is a big no-no to directly strike the outer ring with a hammer. Although it is convenient, local stress may instantly exceed the metal limit, causing tiny cracks and laying the groundwork for early failure.

So we should use the heating assembly method. Evenly heat the bearing to an appropriate range and easily fit it into the journal by taking advantage of the principle of thermal expansion. Or use hydraulic installation tools to push smoothly under controllable pressure and avoid impact damage.

4.The influence of bearing usage requirements on clearance

Bearing clearance is not "the larger the better". Choosing the wrong one will directly affect the temperature rise of the equipment. Actual measurements have found that in precision transmission systems, if large clearance models are mistakenly used, the operating temperature may be nearly twice as high as that of standard clearance models.

Actually we need based on conditions such as shaft diameter, load, and rotational speed, and in combination with the recommended values in the national standard (GB/T4604), precisely select the clearance grade to make the equipment more stable and durable.

When installing the bearings, we still need to be meticulous, follow the procedures properly, avoid pitfalls, and thereby extend the service life of the equipment, while also preventing any unexpected losses.
